I know I'm probably going out on a limb a bit here, especially on current form And the demand for players to be dropped after one or two indifferent games or lauded after a couple of decent ones, but I still believe Carvalho will be worth more than we paid for him. He is undoubtedly suffering at present through his lack of pre season and subsequent game time. At Swansea in his first start back he was outstanding, but has struggled to bit those heights since. However, I am convinced his talent, allied to his work rate will shine through.In the meantime Silva has settled down - to a point- and is keeping the shirt warm until Carvalho find's his mojo. He will certainly have a part to play. I really hope so anyway.

I think a lot of people hope so chap, but I also think a lot are simply blinded by the price tag & glamour which came with his signing.

Genuine question, how does he come good when he's not suited to the system or league?

Many have said "we should build a side around him". We clearly aren't going to do that, and if that's what he needs to succeed here he's at the wrong club.

If you see him working here I'd be genuinely interested to know how coz, even if Silva were to get injured, I can't see him being anything more than a sub under mouch. I think Ameobi, and Semedo if fit, will get the nod over Carva because Mouch seems to prefer more physical players.

If he was so good v Swansea, over two months ago...how he turned out to be a waste of space since? ..the truth is that Carvalho is turning out to be a one trick pony... not what we need at the moment. I repeat it, if we didn't pay 13 million for him, he would have been off in the summer with the other two.
He might turn up to be the new Ronaldo or Messi, but at present he is no better then Dowell...nd he didn't even score  goals as much as him...

I certainly don`t think he is currently worth a place over Siliva however the guy has some serious talent but has not been able to unlock it either through form/fitness or the position being asked to play. For me his best example of running a game was Middlesbrough last season - problem is that level of performance has not been seen since. Before he was starting this season he always looked effective from he bench - hopefully we`ll rebuild his confidence by doing something similar over the next few games and SL can help coach him into what is needed for us this season.

I agree. Some fans just have to find something to criticise and we’re saying similar things about Silva a few months ago. 

Why is it either\or? A marathon season of 46 matches isn’t about 11 players. Sabri needs options because players will vary in form and fitness.

Don't forget that MoN also didn't play him that much and preferred a more physical player, but he did suit Karanka's system.
Just need to keep him ready for the Prem next year! ;-)

He's getting more stick when he plays now though. Against Brentford a good portion of the Lower Trent were giving him some right stick.

The nature of the signing is as much of a problem as anything the player does. Paying a club record fee for a player is always gonna put them in the spotlight, and I don't think he;s a spotlight player. He's like a good keyboard player, who's skills & value to the side can sometimes be immeasurable, but who you can also play through certain songs without & who's no frontman which can lead the way when needed.

Carvalho is still only 22, he is still young enough to play in our development squad for God’s sake! He is nowhere near the finished article yet. He is a few months younger than both Worrall and Cash who most of us still regard as green and cut them some slack accordingly. He is still learning the game and in a foreign country to boot.

I will accept that there is a challenge where he fits in our current system, maybe he would suit a premier team better but I hope we find that out when he is playing there for us. Regarding Silva adapting quicker he is a few years older so maybe thats to be expected. Special mention for Yuri too coming along in leaps and bounds and he is another 22 year old.

Which Premiership team ...? Players like him are loaned out all over Europe by the Premiership teams...

Unfortunately 13m to pay for potential is the biggest display of naivety I've ever seen at the club since we employed Platt. It's what Prem clubs pay for potential, or Blackburn pay for Brereton lol.

I do find it a bit disheartening at games when Adomah's skinning the sheep, Silva's delivering great set pieces, even Ameobi's causing chaos and we're still singing about a kid who's done nowhere near as much as most the first team this season sat on the bench.

I don't like hype over substance, and I don't like the fact that the 11 blokes who are giving us the best season we've had in ages get their efforts rewarded with chants for someone who's done naff all so far this year.

My hope though is that he returns in a few months really raring to prove himself & has a blinder, putting all this to rest :)
