A lot of talk about young Ben in one or two other threads so I thought I'd create his own well deserved thread.
In my opinion this lad is 'special'.
Some of the flashes of brilliance he has shown in his short career have reminded me of the Great Garry Birtles and Stan Collymoore and I don't say that lightly.
With the right coaching and 'support' this lad can go right to the top in my opinion and I hope it's with Nottingham Forest.

I have only ever seen 2 players rise through the ranks at Forest since the late 70's who haven't had a tough second year and that is Fairclough and Keane and it could be argued Keane is a shoe in as we bought him
Last year Ben produced what he did with absolutely nothing going for him, the team was struggling, he was over played, the expectation was to high, he was too much of a focal point to the opposition. On the upside he's now got hairs on his arse in abundance, there are 3 young uns who have taken virtually every once of pressure off him, Grabban has taking the goal scoring pressure of him and is now in a position to play with absolute freedom.
Grabban is the obvious choice for this seasons top scorer but I wouldn't be shocked at all if it turns out to be Brereton, just think we are talking about him scoring for the U19's 50+ first team appearances and he's representing the U19's I bet he's got more experience than the rest of that side up together (not that I've checked but you get the drift)

Plus this from 'Sausage Roll' which is bang on in my opinion:
The stick Brereton gets from some quarters is absolutely absurd. Of course he'll miss chances. He's a 19 (18 for much of last season) year old kid, who was playing up front on his own in a struggling Championship side with fans renowned for their impatience. He's bound not to be perfect. If he were a Michael Owen-like finisher we'd have lost him already.
You only have to look at the size and strength of him and see how he played in that Arsenal game to see his massive potential. It absolutely baffles me that some can't understand that.

He's a talent no doubt but I just hope they're coaching the 'earning a free kick' out of him. Last season I felt that his going down at the slightest challenge was getting out of hand - and he was doing this in preference to actually staying on his feet and doing something. IMO in the 2nd half of the season refs were becoming aware of this and not being so quick to award a free kick.
We now have the opportunity of being patient with him but the down side is that he's only going to play a supporting role to Grabban, which may affect him. Cant have it both ways I suppose.

This lad will go from strength to stength within the side we have now , possibly play his way into the side ahead of Grabben at some point .

What struck me the most about his goal yesterday was that it was from a through ball that he could run on to. I can only remember one goal from him last year that was from a through ball, mainly because we didn’t have anyone to play the through ball. I think Ben’s strength is running onto the ball, hopefully the new midfield and forward players will feed him lots of ball this season

Great thread guys - sincerely hope you’re right.
Can’t argue with any of the above - just worry ( as I alluded to elsewhere ) about him remaining grounded.

The attacking threat of the side is now vastly different to last season and Benny will be a part of it. No chance of sending him out on loan in my opinion and rightly so.

Ben is 19. He's got the world at his feet.
(I can't wait to see what he does in a squad of much better players. Some of the Academy players, 4-5 of them, shouldered a lot of responsibility for an almost relegation season last year. In that context, Ben and the rest of them did remarkably well.)
