That's my gut but the potential legal challenges behind that could make it very difficult. Also do you reinstate Bury as they in theory started the 2019/20 league season. Do you restart all the European club competitions with this year's teams in? What about TV revenue and rights and sponsorship/advertisements deals or lost revenue from having not played the contracted number of games. Or even player contracts, bonuses etc
There are so many problems with the 'start again' approach it is hard to imagine. Sounds easy but it seems like a nuclear option.
I imagine UEFAs meeting on Tuesday will discuss these options but I do think Euro 2020 is almost certain to be shelved for a year and that could buy some time in the summer to finish the season. That is my best bet. But if this virus goes beyond June then that time has gone. Then what?
The other alternative is they play behind closed doors but not sure too many are keen on that idea either.

Ultimately there is no way we are playing in April or May - this will be the peak across UK and europe. Likelihood we will play through the summer months with 2020 euros cancelled until 2021 - July and August more likely. New season being pushed back until late september/early October.
Obviously this throws up issue of out of contract players but they have time to sort that out - how, I do not know.
There will also be a way that they work all this around the 2022 winter world Cup.
Obviously, the whole thing is pure speculation and if this virus does untold damage for months then who knows what the future holds
Yep, generally agree with all of that.
Realistically the sporting competition can only resume when all clubs have access to all players. It'd be incredibly unfair if the playoffs were lost because one team had half its playing staff unavailable.
Its just a nightmare scenario with no clear and fair way ahead.

Lots could be drawn for the 3 promotion places maybe?
Im sure there must be football league rules covering the cancellation of a season. Any course of action would probably be decided by the clubs voting.

It's like every other aspect of everyday life at the present time. We do not know! We do not know how long this virus is going to be around. We don't know when, or if it will peak. We don't know if schools, colleges, universities, shopping centres, theatres, music gigs/festivals will be cancelled. We just do not know!!
With that in mind, we cannot expect the ruling bodies to come up with a plan of action for a situation nobody knows how long it will last for. We could speculate that the season will re-commence on 3rd April, but according to Government estimations, the crisis will not have even peaked then. We don't know! If this situation does escalate into the summer, the ruling bodies will have not alternative but to null and void this season.
Legal challenges? There is no precedent ever been set before to give a ruling one way or the other with regards to situations like this happening before. Apart from the world wars of course.
Yes it will be unfair on those clubs that are in with a shout of promotion or winning a title or cup, but what we have to realise here is that this has not come about as a result of some bureaucratic balls up but as a result of a killer virus that is not just affecting the UK, but the world. But contrary to popular belief, there are some things more important than football and life is one of them!

Would that mean lots taken for relegation as well. And would all teams still mathematically capable of promotion or relegation take them.
It's a minefield

I would say ending the season on current points is more likely than cancelling the season.
I reckon they'll try and finish it in Aug/Sep maybe and either switch the calendar for world cup 2022 or run a shortened season.
Thing is we have no idea when/if this will get better. Not impossible we could just finish the season next year. Do we really think we'll be able to even start the new season anyway?

Damn right there are more important things than football. It is more critical that the strategy this government has adopted against the advise of WHO and in contrast to every other country fighting this virus isms correct

I think finishing the current season is preferable than making sure the new one starts in August/September whether this current season has finished or not. They will need to be pragmatic and adapt to the ongoing crisis

Much easier and fairer to create new rules for a shorter season and finish this one. The contract issue will need addressing though.

Put all players in isolation, then after the 2 weeks, complete the season. maybe behind closed doors.
However there are so many potential problems with that scenario.
Whatever happens the FA/EFL/Prem whoever have little options is a good number of players get it. Leeds, Villa etc can all go to the courts but really what are they going to achieve.

Yeah I thought that originally, you're relying on a lot of people never leaving the house though. To realistically do that you'd need players to live away from their families long term. Might work for prem but not realistic for all EFL. Youd also need time to actually train too

It will not. Any players that cought the eye, will be sold or leave and we will be in a relegation struggle.
Remaining games to be played, if necessary a game every five days and with closed doors, and play offs over two weeks max.
I think the problem is far worse for 'hotter' countries. In England dragging the season into June is no big deal, but its unthinkable to do it in Italy nd Spain for example, again , unless all games are not played behind closed doors nd at night.
I think what will happen is more next season that will end up not exist ( 2020/2021), as to finish this one we know that there are two, three months wirth of games left to play but the next one .... no one knows when and if can even start. Gents this outbreak is not at the end, until a vaccine is out and proven, no one is safe so like cannot return to normal, apart that european economies will be coming out of this worst then after the second world war ... there will be more then a Marshall Aid needed ...
