Hit or Flop?

Hit. Cost peanuts. Solid career for us. Did a man marking  job on Zola once when he was best attacking player in Prem.

You know.  I used to be a critic of his. 
That was before I experienced all our RBs since.

*chomps and chokes on my former words.

Boy could we do with him now.  Tenacious and robust.

Des was a cracking player, he got some terrible abuse in his first season with us, some of it quite unsavoury.

I still remember his goal at Villa Park.

How about Alan Rogers?

I liked the tank. Decent and solid and could get forward down the wing a bit too, if I remember correctly. Hit

The tank only started doing stuff when moved onto the left wing.

As a LB, kinda sucked.  Why?  Couldn't defence a header on the goal line.  He was so diminutive.  We got 'done' many times with Rogers at LB.  He was one of two fullbacks that were 'soft' at the time.

Having watched ZDS Cup final yesterday for 1st time since I was there it got me to thinking. In that squad were lads who were often criticised around that time. The likes of Chet, Gemill, Crosby and my personal "miss" Kingsley Black. Yet watching the game, they had so much quality compared to what we have seen over the last 20 years. Gemill was motm, Crosby hardly gave the ball away and Black caused quite a bit of havoc down the left and scored. Granted, only one game (Keane for instance was rubbish on the day as was Gary Charles.) but fairly indicative of their ability.

Also the total lack of genuine attacking pace that so many go on about now. Clough and Sheringham up front would be up there with Gary Jones for pace, with Crosby and Black wide hardly quick, yet they were tearing Southampton a new one at times. 

Anyway, despite this, kingsley Black: hit or miss.....I will vote miss.

What about Tommy Gaynor! I loved him - so skilful and good passer of the ball. Not rapid but decent. Another clough signing - from nowhere and dissapeared nearly as quickly as he arrived...

Barry Lyons was just a fraction before my time but Terry Curran what a player. 100% Hit. I thought he was brilliant.

Although jean-claude darchville was not a hit for us he signed for us at a bad time for himself,
he had lost his wife and kids in a car accident not long before so I wouldn't be to critical of him.
