Sabri Lamouchi in talks over new Nottingham Forest contract

Sabri Lamouchi is in talks over a new contract at Nottingham Forest while the head coach, his staff and the board are taking  significant pay cuts to assist the club during the coronavirus pandemic.

Lamouchi will remain in charge at the City Ground until the end of this season, regardless of the finishing date, and is also set to further extend his tenure at the Championship club after an impressive debut season in English football.

The 48 year old was appointed in June last year as Martin O’Neill’s successor and signed a 12-month deal, which automatically triggers an extension if he guides Forest back to the Premier League.

Forest have agreed that Lamouchi will stay for the remainder of this season, which has been suspended due to the deadly virus, and are also moving to retain their highly-regarded head coach for the long-term.

It is also understood that Lamouchi, his staff and the club's board have accepted pay cuts - as opposed to deferrals - during the coronavirus crisis.

The Frenchman had led Forest to fifth in the Championship before the season was frozen, five points clear of seventh-place, and Lamouchi has won two manager of the month awards.

Lamouchi has proved a shrewd appointment since being named as O’Neill’s replacement, after first establishing his reputation as a manager with the Ivory Coast national team and Rennes.

A former midfielder and France international, he has raised hopes of the two-time European Cup winners finally ending their long exile from top-flight football. Forest were relegated from the Premiership under Ron Atkinson in 1999.

If they are back training on Monday then there will hopefully be some news. I'd be thrilled if Lamouchi stayed with us for another season or two.

Me too. However if he hasn't signed an extension by the end of next week then I'll start thinkng that he ain't staying.
