Owls Fans comments on seeing our Chairmans letter about refunds today....

This has to be the most long winded way of saying something I have seen in my life

No refunds then. without blackmail?

These clubs make me sick to the stomach.
Grovel on your hands and knees for a fully entitled refund, add in a bit emotional blackmail and sprinkle in a bit of truefanism.
Meanwhile, Millions and millions of pounds are paid to their players.
F### the lot of em'.

Contracts they have to honour them.  There is no magical fairy with a flick of her wand, it all disappears.
Of course the clubs should have seen the virus coming years ago. What they like eh?


I seem to be in the minority here but I actually like this response.
It is better than a few we have seen posted on here and offers the refund first and foremost. It also offers what seems like a good option for the kids season tickets which is an issue others have not addressed directly.

  Yes, they appeal to the fans to take the other options instead of the refund and as has been said, this is a bit galling when considered in comparison with players continuing to walk away with their salaries throughout this. That's the bit that gets me the most - I would be far more inclined to consider other options if the players were taking a hot too but it seems clubs hands are tied in this respect - unless they all agree then the club would probably be in breach of contract and the players could well walk away for nothing leaving them with little resources to finish the season and potential sale value lost as well in some cases.

It is rubbish that it appears to be putting the onus back on the fans in this respect when the players are seemingly not all contributing but I would imagine this is largely down to the players - if the clubs could cut something back from the players they would have done.

Its interesting that the message references the FFP regulations - I wonder if the clubs have gone to the EFL in this respect - surely the EFL should be looking at putting something in place to relax FFP for owners who are willing and able to cover losses that are as a direct result of this unforeseen circumstance? If not then even more clubs will face falling foul of the rules in the not too distant future and the jokes about half the league potentially being deducted points might become a reality.   


Imagine telling your fans you’d rather them not ask for a refund because of FFP.
Outrageous.
Its been hinted that UEFA will adjust FFP in light of CV. You’d imagine the EFL have to, especially if clubs are using it as a reason to talk people out of claiming refunds


Most fans will share this imagination but believing that the EFL will do so is a different matter. They have made statements in recent weeks about parachute payments not being fair - why can't they make a statement to say that they are looking at ways to alter P&S regulations in light of COVID-19 in order to help clubs in financial trouble - if this is something they intend to do?
This is clearly going to cost clubs more than they can afford within the constraints of FFP/P&S so lift the constraints specifically in relation to these losses and allow owners to put their money where their mouths have been in this respect.

Or look how much teams lost up to March and prorata  the balance for the remainder of the season.
Seen an easy way to do it and takes Co-vid out of the equation this season.

At top level this is spot on. At our level you will do well to find a millionaire owner making money out of football. Of course that is what they are all in it for ultimately and if they get to the PL they will make money but the majority don't and won't at this level and below.

The agents and the players, absolutely right, they carry on regardless and when one club runs out of money and/or starts to decline they simply move on to the next one.

It does seem a bit 'rich' begging to the fans but that's where FFP comes to the table in the current climate. The EFL should allow owners to fund losses attributed to COVID-19 - this then puts the ball in their court and allows them to put more money in that they have been saying they want to all along  or calls their bluff.

It is and the recent pandemic have put this into focus and perspective for me. I suspect the big EPL football clubs will accelerate the move towards global customer base - playing home games in Dubai; Beijing, Houston etc. leaving the once loyal working class fan base well behind. They need their home-based fans to be affluent and indifferent about how they access the games - the current playing-behind closed doors will be a test of how this will work. Cardboard cut out fans and crowd noise is a trial run for the real thing. Streaming the games to the armchair fans for an annual fee is the future.

I get feeling very few at forest will , there getting upwards of 30000 every game having a new large stand built having success on the pitch and supporters very happy with there club ,complete opposite of us ,they might get offered vouchers for say £100 at there club shop I don't think too many of our fans would be as interested .

I don’t agree with much of that but then again the final nine games won’t effect them in the same way and they have substantial issues in complying with FFP so they are coming from a different place.

The refs bottled a penalty appeal by blowing for time.
Kadeem Harris is woefull at crossing a ball,Reach is a FAR better crosser and scores the odd goal.
Fair result but Keiran Lee should hit the net with his chance.

Wednesday were happy, not with the late equaliser but that was the first time this season they haven’t been booed off.

To be expected, at least Wickham found the net finally. By sounds of it monks subs changed the game for the worst, odabajo losing his man for their goal. Teams below picking up points aswell. Can't see us being in this division next season unfortunately.

Players were decent. Some real positives. But the plan was poor, the changes were negligent and the leadership was absent. a real missed opportunity.

I thought we played quite well actually. Shape seemed decent but I’m annoyed about the goal as it shouldn’t happen and how Kieran Lee missed that is beyond me.
Thought Wickham was much better and glad he got his goal. Odubajo, Hunt and even Da Cruz looked decent off the bench.
Deserved the win in my opinion, but hopefully this is a new start.

At this rate we are going to limp over the line to safety (Points deduction excluded)

Odubajo previously said he found it difficult playing in front of the Hillsborough crowd.
Will he say tonight he finds it difficult playing in an empty stadium or in front of cardboard cut-outs?

Deserved three points in my opinion. We just lack cutting edge and that’s been our story of the season. Some neat build up play outside the box but the final ball or final decision is lacking.
Lee played well and on that showing has put a good case forward for a new deal. He’s a clever player and very reliable. Bannan decent but please take him off set pieces, he’s not good at them. Hunt and Da Cruz looked good when they came on.
I’ll take a point there. Pleased to see Wickham get off the mark.

Got to be happy with overall performance against a good team.
More possesion and we tried to win the game. Didnt drop the heads either. Could have had a few pens as well.
Yeah final ball was lacking, some poor choices . Rhodes should have buried his chance. As should Lee
Wildsmith did well.
A sloppy goal to concede and we need to cut that out.
Odubajo had a go and Da Cruz had his best game for us.

Good to see them fight to the end and get just reward, but same old, same old missing loads of chances. A better team than Florist would have put us away today.

Should’ve taken our chances before they scored — Rhodes was half a yard off the pace and their man made a great block from Lee after Wickham hit the post. We were rubbish after their goal but didn’t deserve to lose the game. We need a plan b for when crossing isn’t working though, we’re still very one dimensional going forward

We looked the more determined side and we’re not the ones firmly in the playoffs, so I guess we should be happy with a draw.
I still think there’s more to get out of those players, and I’m not sure Monk is the man to do it

Disappointing 2nd half where we seemed to just relax back into our usual pattern of play. That usually puts us in a rut that’s hard to get out of should we go a goal down.
But for me the most important thing is Monk dropped the 3-4 players that made error after error before the break costing us goals every game. I hope he realised after today how much more solid we are without them.

Can’t help but be concerned we are only 8 points off the bottom 3. If we do get a point deduction you would imagine it will be at least 9 points, probably more. Really will struggle to stay up. Could be kicking ourselves we didn’t take those chances today.

That was much better than I expected.
Thought we played it on the floor with some decent movement. Much better with luongo in the team.
Rhodes looked ok and Wickham much better than pre lockdown
Bannan for me was superb - always milking to make things happen and he covers back so well too- always going to the very last kick

 Not too surprised to see the usual negativity for Monk from the usual sources. We kniw who you are, we know you dont like him jyst stop whining on about it. We had by far the best of the first half but bad balls in and bad finishing let us down. Borner was out of position for their goal, again no fault of Monks and Iorfa and Odabajo, were not good enough to stop Lolly from scoring. Monk made substitutions that were designed to get us back in the game and the players that he put on picked up the pace. Cruz delivered the best two balls into the box in the whole of the game. We scored the equaliser from the second beauty. Well done Monk and well done players. Good tactics and with better final balls and better finishing we could easily have won against a very good team.
I hoped that this virus might give the moaners some perspective, but for seem reason they are just carrying on like a nasty little virus of their own. Pleased the boo boys had to stay at home today SWFC do not need them.

Much better performance than where we left off in March. This system seems to suit the players and we probably shaded the match, although maybe didn't do enough to deserve a win.
The wing-back system means that Murphy and Harris get more time and space - although they need to start using the ball better. Murphy has only set up one goal with a cross all season (the low cross for Windass, our last goal before the break) and Harris only beat his man a couple of times and seems a bit predictable.
Lee should have blasted that easy chance into the roof of the net - instead he tried to play safe and hit the target, although there was a touch of fortune in the block.
Wickham and Rhodes looked much better than before. Da Cruz put in two wicked corners in the end (Bannan had floated a few free-kicks before that straight at Samba).
Wildsmith had a quietly assured game. Kicking is better than Dawson, a couple of good catches. No chance for the goal. All in all a 7/10 kind of performance and 7/10 kind of result considering Forest were in the play-offs.

On the Forest goal - any definitive view whether Lolley was offside? He looked 2-3 yards offside but the camera angle wasn't from the moment the pass was played. If he was onside - then Odubajo's fault as he seemed slow to react - but I will spare him the wrath of Emerson Thome if this was because of an offside.

Did more than enough to win that one. Rhodes and Lee missed chances they would normally score from and Wickham hit post as well as scoring. Liked the shape but would rather see Reach left and Odubajo right if we persevere with 3–5-2 because Harris now has little or no end product. Disappointing result but better overall than what we saw in Feb March this year.

A lot of things Monk does don't 'make total sense'. He says Fletcher has been injured in the build up to the game and didn't play in the warm up match last week yet he makes the bench.
Forestieri has trained all week and did play in the warm up game but Monk says he wasn't included in a 20-man squad because he isn't fit enough.
Fletcher gets a muscle injury within 2 minutes of gingerly coming on as sub......

That was a better performance from us.
There isn't much creativity in the squad now, no real flair players but what we did, we did ok. Moved the ball about more freely, played more positively and at times we were progressive and effective.
We lacked anyone to get a cross into the box from very good positions until Da Cruz came on and showed us how to take corners.
Baz always looking for the magical ball into the corners but when it wasn't on, he was too slow to pass it a few yards and have it back.
Wildsmith in goal is by far the best choice, he can play football and has a football head on him. The backs looked more confident.
7/10 performance from the Owls today against a play off team. Good (re) opening result for me.

Read that Manchester United have had 16 penalties this season, meanwhile, we  have had 16 in 7 years

Forest v Huddersfield Pre Match Comments....

Whilst Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at home to Wigan Athletic was very disappointing, it was the nature of the performance that was of overriding concern. After the game, Danny Cowley said that they had prepared for the Latics’ 442 high press. It certainly didn’t look that way. The Lancastrians implemented their game plan with discipline, organisation, and industry. By contrast, Town were unable to take advantage of a remarkable 70% possession; lacking the ideas and guile to break down their opponents’ defence. For large parts of the match, the Terriers seemed disinterested and unmotivated and, to be frank, some players looked unfit. This result saw the Terriers slip two places to 20th on 42 points, and are now just one point clear of the drop zone.

Nottingham Forest, who we visit next Sunday, drew 1-1 at Sheffield Wednesday with Joe Lolley scoring the opener. The coming game, that kicks off at 2:15, is live on Sky so it won’t be available on iFollow. The Tricky Trees are currently in 5th place, on 61 points, with a 8-4-6 home record, and look comfortable for the play-offs. The reverse fixture, on 21 December 2019, was a tense 2-1 home win in a fractious, physical encounter that had bad blood between the benches. Our past record away at Forest has been mixed. We last played them there on 8 April 2017, also in the Championship, when we lost 2-0.

Hopefully, the reverse against Wigan will be a wakeup call and I expect a more motivated, robust performance in the East Midlands. However, this does look a very tough encounter and I expect us to lose by the odd goal.

I’m thinking that we will see a massive reaction to the Wigan performance.

Duhaney to start over Simpson - Too slow, too inefficient. Poor performance
King to start ahead of Hogg - I like Hogg, I really do but let's give King a start, and let him prove that he's up for a fight and earn a contract.
If Mounie is fit, start him up top, ESR 10, Willock and Grant either side. - Drop Bacuna, heart wasn't in it, and felt like he gave away too many fouls
If Mounie ISN'T fit, then ESR 10, Pritchard and Willock either side and Grant up top. - Drop Bacuna
Given we need goals, I wonder if a diamond 4-4-2 would be an option, to allow Mounie-Campbell up top, ESR 10, Grant/Willock on the wings and Lewis O'Brien as a DCM
If ESR isn't fit or still sick, then start Pritchard and bring ESR from the bench. We need FIT players.

Lots of issues raised as to why we were so poor against Wigan. My own view is that there was too much change in the front 4 positions, and maybe in the formation, and that we should revert to the players and formation that worked so well against in the last 2 games pre lockdown. Campbell or mounie up front with grant on left, willcock on right and either Pritchard or esr in middle, probably Pritchard to start.
Too big a game to change Simpson but he's on borrowed time. Stick with hogg for this game but he's not positive enough when we need to go for it.
The two goals were down to Schindler not cutting out the cross and Simpson being too slow to get back.

Needs a massive turnround from Saturday even to get a point. They are looking to solidify a playoff place, probably too much for us at this point but you never know

Amazing how many people are not able to understand Hogg’s role in the team.
“ He’s not positive enough”.
Hogg is there to do the ugly things - win the ball and give to a ball player.
The reason he has looked poor since Mooy left is because our wonderful recruitment team failed miserably to replace him with anyone decent.

I was wondering why we were so bad and I wonder how many of our players are “confidence” players. People like Bacuna come alive when the crowd gets going and rightly or wrongly I suspect they haven’t had to motivate themselves properly without a crowd before. That’s why they are in friendly mode trying not to get injured which is what most the mid table teams players will be doing right now. We have to kick them up the arse enough to spark life into them or we are done

not,as Danny Cowley also said we played very poorly,and to add to that bombshell Stearman said he was very disappointed with the display,so next time I think they will really really really try to be better,especially as we may have our 30 goal per season strikers back,,I just wouldn't want to be in Nottingham Forests shoes on sunday

 I'm expecting a 3-0 Forest scoreline.
