Sorry, but if this was meticulously planned he'd be going for a top end price, during the window, not a low end price now.
Exactly, didn't we receive an offer in the region of 10M late on transfer deadline day from an unnamed PL side that was rejected.
Now, a couple of weeks later he is being sold for 6M.

Possibly a buy back option etc big sell on clause id imagine goal and england call up clauses.
Brereton has bags of potential but he might never reach those heights so not a bad deal for us i think the Academy rate Arvin and Gomis higher and then Young johno is next off the production line allready playing in higher age groups. I think its all part of the bigger plan. If we sell ben for 7m and use 2 million of that to loan Tammy for the season and get promotion i think that would make perfect sense . Alan nixon said Tammy is available but clubs are put off by the fee . Promotion = £60 milion plus calculted gamble in my opinion.

The club obvs view this as a better deal

Well, if the stories are true then the club that made the offer will be back in.
But so far nobody else is interested, which kind of suggests the so called 10m bid was just nonsense to fill newspaper space ?

Defoe of about 4 or 5 years ago would have been magnificent. But now? And if he does come we *have* to play to his strengths, and they're certainly not big lumps forward like we saw to Murphy on Saturday. Even if he does come it still seems really short-term thinking to me. Selling a great prospect to fund signing a 35 year old - albeit a good one - on loan.

We haven’t had any real success stories in last 20 years of bringing in old players who in prime were quality.
Just off top of my head (and sure folk can add loads more)
Cole
Greening
Nicky southall (although had one good season)
Eaden
Lennon
Ian Wright
Two of the Italians in Platts era.
Boateng
Will say des Walker when he returned and Beasant still one of the best keepers we’ve had and he was nearly 40 . Murphy still on fence but he has scored goals and got 2 already this year, and Dawson doesn’t seem to be making a mark
Defoe defo short and short term signing and selling Brereton could be one to come back and bite us .
Majority of Karankas signing are based on here and now, mixture of loans and older players.
The way I see it if we don’t go up it’s going to mean another big spend next year

Richard Gough wasn't bad. Carlton Palmer was though.

Don't get it. Carvy in for 13m, BB out for "up to" 7m. We've essentially payed 6m to have to start blooding another youngster from scratch.

Personally, I think his leech has had something to do with all of this. Telling him he should be on the bench at least week in, week out. Bottom line is, if Brereton was happy here, he would not have considered, let alone agreed to move to bright lights and metropolis that is Blackburn.
AK wanted to keep him here but said that if the move was right for NFFC, BRFC and BB then it would happen, but only if all 3 parties were happy with it. Why then are NFFC happy with a reported £3m less than what was apparently offered by a Premier league side just a week ago? Something has happened that has turned his head and forced Forest's hand and it isn't £7m.
There is a lot more to this than meets the eye IMO and hopefully the truth will come out sooner rather than later.
Personally, I am not too bothered about him going. I must've been one of the few fans that just could not see what all of the praise was about. Yes! he had his moments, but the were very few and far between and once opposition teams sussed out how to make him ineffective, his moments became less and less. Maybe Stoke saw something about him that made them let him go for free...................who knows.
My only real concern is the shortage of options we have got up top and the very possibility of another 35 year old leading the line.
