Summary After 10 Games.

So, 10 games into the season and this is the point the manager's usually allow us to judge how teams are doing.

11th Position - P10 W3 D6 L1 PTS15 GD+2

Upper mid-table. I'd say this is a pretty fair reflection of where we're at so far. 'Difficult to beat but don't seem to have that extra-special ability to win a tight game' probably sums us up in a sentence. Saturday's game was a classic example, missed a pen, went ahead, then went behind and got a draw in the end. I wasn't' there but from what I heard on the radio, it was a game where we had control for decent periods and so one which we could easily have won. I can't see us challenging top 2 this year. What I've seen from the home games, I think we're playing for 6th.

Looking at the league table as a whole, I'd say the division is taking shape. West Brom and Boro are at the top and likely to be 1 and 2 at the end. It's quite fluid for the play-off spots but I'd imagine Sheff Utd, Wigan & Brentford will fall away leaving the big squads of Derby, Villa, Leeds, us and maybe Norwich and Swansea. There's always a surprise package in there too - Wigan perhaps? Or Stoke, if they can get going after Rowett's inevitable sacking.

At the bottom end my pre-season favorites for relegation, QPR, Hull & Ipswich are all near the bottom. Going to be difficult for them all to get away unless something drastic happens. God knows what's happened to Preston.  I thought they were a decent side last year.

Someone on Twitter posted a comparison of this start against the last 10 or 12 or so seasons. Only in Billy Davies' second spell and Psycho's season had we actually started better in terms of points. We had 19 and 20 points respectively in those two seasons, against 15 this season.

Interesting stat.

That seems to highlight just how poor Forest have been outside of those seasons, in general.  Outside of Davies, I find it hard to recall where Forest 'took the fight' to the league.

This time round...we may be a grower not a show-er...

I'd be quite happy with that if the motion in the ocean gets us there in the end.

I think Derby's loss at Bolton was interesting on Saturday where they lose after winning at OT a few days before. I'd suggest that was probably due to player fatigue, both mental and physical.

In comparison, we play (I accept not such a tough) game on Wednesday, a large part with 10 men and under the cosh, and go away and get a really decent point on Saturday, such is our strength in depth.

Our squad's going to be a real asset over the winter so yes, we could be a grower.

It seems already that word has got round that if allowed, we can be a very good team and so teams are setting up to ensure we dont do what we did against West Brom, Newcastle etc.. we have to learn to deal with that.

We've played really well in the West Brom and Newcastle games because both teams arrogantly allowed us to play, thinking they'd be able to just brush us aside. Whereas the norm now will be the Rotherham, Reading, Birmingham approach, which is to nullify us and sit on the game. Regardless of the result those 3 teams did well against us by doing that. And the more other clubs see that working, the more we'll get. Wednesday night will be the same.

I heard Mobray being interviewed after Saturdays game. He said that the reason they have got Ben Brereton is that we consider he's not yet good enough for a top 2 team. So that's what we see ourselves as, a top team.  So being 11th is not really doing the business really.

I would like to focus on the what has happened after the international break as I believe we have turned a corner and are starting to play much more as ONE team. In that period we have played 4 games 2 home and 2 away and we have collected 8 points which gives us an average of 2 points per game. If we are to continue that form we should end up with 87 points. That should bring us very close to auto places. My point being that anything is still very much possible.

Agreed Paplane, in that respect we are not doing the business but having brought in the numbers we've brought in AK deserves a little leeway whilst the players and coaching staff get it all together. That said, 10 games should be enough to start seeing something developing which is precisley what we are seeing. Not the finished article yet but reasons to be optimistic, dependant on your personal expectation levels.

We dont want to be in the lead from the gun but further down the order, undetected but slowing moving through the field.

We've conceded seven fewer goals.

I think that is incisive analysis.

Forest are indeed playing more as 'one team' from front to back.  The new fullbacks have made a massive difference, however, as you have also observed...they are being aided and abetted by hard working front men.

Anything is possible.  Starting by getting into the top 6 by beating Millwall, hopefully.

The points 'average' since the 'break' has been very interesting. Keep that up...and 'Who loves you, baby?'

Feeling mildly optimistic about the season now. Was worried before international break but our performance since has been a lot better and we don't look like losing. 

Carvalho seems to have settled and Grabban is starting to score. Still conceding a few too many for my liking but nothing like last two seasons.

Things are looking up and I would expect us to continue to get better. If I think back to seasons under Pearce and Warburton - we started okay but seemed to get worse game on game. This, as it should be, shows us getting better and I would not rule anything out yet.

I'll be happy if we stay a point or two in touch of the leading pack. Consistency will be the key this year, we have strength in depth which a lot of teams don't have, that will come more to the fore later on in the season.
