We have had some outstanding Centre Backs over the years.
Bob McKinlay, Larry Lloyd, Kenny Burns, Einar Aas, Des Walker, Chris Fairclough, Colin Cooper I thought they were all absolutely brilliant.
One or two unerrated ones too like Terry Wilson, Sammy Chapman and Colin Foster. I remember Johnny Metgod playing there too sometimes. We have been blessed with some top class Centre Backs over the years.

Don't forget Henessey. Even Nigel and Roy Keane played there as did Birtles towards the end of his career.

Chett is a good shout as well. Played about 500 games, local lad and Forest fan. Not as good as most of the others mentioned but vast majority of his games were played at the top level, solid and reliable and better than most of the dross we’ve seen in that position for the last 20 years!

Difficult to look beyond Lloyd & Burns as a pairing - they must have been an absolute nightmare to play against. Any ‘shy, retiring’ strikers were beaten before they stepped on the pitch.
Einar Aas was sheer class - just such a pity that we saw so little of him.

For me it has to be Bob McKinlay. He was my first real football hero in the 1950s. I never understood why he wasn't capped for Scotland. After over15 years playing in the first team he had to work as a prison warder after he retired. Times have changed!!!!

Lloyd & Burns definitely the best pairing and one of the all time great central defensive pairings in British football. Older fans say Hennessy and McKinlay were a great pairing as well but before my time. If Einar Aas had stayed fit he’d have been great alongside Fairclough or Walker. Also liked Colin Foster alongside Des and remember being annoyed when we sold him.

Taking out the more up to date centre backs, I feel I have to have a special mention for Sammy Chapman.
In some ways he was very similar to Stuart Pearce with his guts and thunder, no nonsense approach to the game.
Sammy was a regular when I first started going to watch Forest matches in '73/74 and i loved the guy from the off.

Michael Dawson is that league too. Hjelde was decent as was Haaland.
Honourable mentions: Paul Hart, Dave Needham, Wes Morgan.

Burns. Lloyd. Golden Generation. 'Do what must be done.'
Walker. Silver Generation.
Colin Cooper.
Dawson.
Latterly, I think we haven't fully harnessed the centre halves at our disposal. Big Ben and Milo where the last that showed real promise in terms of dominating aerial threats and doing what is necessary. Not politically correct players. But I felt they had the attributes. An injury and a changing of the guard...allowed Forest to miss a trick with these two.
Worrall and Figs. Work in progress. Both very young. Need a couple more years on them before we can fully assess them.

Yes well said Heanor Red. Chett deserves a mention. Definitely.
Chettle was steady. He deserves some credit. He could take a penalty better than Grabban. Rock solid left footer.
