Hughton's Got A Job On His Hands

This is what I would do in the summer.

Get both Garner and Krovinovic back on loan and offer Ameobi a new deal (he's won me over).

Try to raise funds to sign 5 or 6 quality players by selling or allowing to leave the following (some are out of contract).

Samba - I know this will surprise a few but I'm not convinced by him and he should command a decent fee.
Jenkinson - Sell or give away if we can.
Ribeiro - Don't renew let him go.
Arter - Sell or give away.
Colback - Sell or give away.
Sow - Don't renew let him leave.
Fred - Sell or giveaway.
Knockaert - Don't resign let him go.
Freeman - Don't resign let him go.
Murray - Don't resign let him go.
Grabban - Sell if we can.
Taylor - Sell if we can.

Some of those ^^ might surprise a few but if I was in Hughton's shoes that is what I would try and do.

What would you do?

Samba is the only surprise there, I wouldn't get rid personally, sometimes pretty difficult difficult find a decent keeper.

Otherwise, yes to all although I think fans need to accept that no-one will take the players on excessive contracts. Jenkinson is going nowhere unless we pay him off. There was rumoured interest in Arter so might be able to shift him.

This would leave us needing a load of new signings to replace these players too remember.

Personally would renew Sammy and let anyone out of contract go. Renew the loans of Garner, Krov and Knockaert if possible.

Probably keep Colback, Murray, Taylor as squad fillers

Brave to ditch all 3 strikers.

The chances of getting 3 more in - of good enough standard - are pretty remote.

And we would do well to find buyers / takers for Jenkinson & Colback.

Krovanovic, is not the number 10 we need if we are to play with one striker. He should be feeding and providing assists from and to the striker.
Right now I never saw a proper dangerous shot coming from him and don't recall many assists either.
From the January signings it is Garner that is making the difference and like him of not, the combo of him and Cafu is working. Since those two started playing together, our midfield was never dominated.
Our problems are up front. We don't create and score goals. The opposition are not worried about our fire power thus they are putt more pressure on our defence.
If we , somehow, we find a formula that allow us to score more goals, even Bong will look like Maldini.

Outs

Dawson - retirement
Ribeiro - apparantly talking to other clubs and won’t be staying
Iaonnou - sell or another loan
Sow - let him go
Bachirou - has options
Diallo - pointless singing
Arter - wants to move South, prob will only be a loan
Grabban - need to raise funds and a move to a Middle East could be an option.

LOANS -

Would try and keep Garner, Krovi and Knockaert.

Ins -

Johnson returning from loan is like a new signing.
Need to spend some ££ on a number 9
2 full backs
Keep Ameobi
Need an upgrade in the number 8 position.

Agree with all, would add I'd sign Christie as long as its not an excessive contract

Pretty much as you, but I'd be tempted to keep hold off Taylor,  other than that...bang on

well, i think Ribs and Samba are terrific players, where things have maybe gone wrong is that the club philosophy and the fans are all focussed on inquisitions about mistakes and avoiding them at all costs, I think the squad as a whole is trying to hard to avoid mistakes and guess what, promising moves come to nothing, occassionally win a free kick or a corner but yes, so many mistakes, unforced errors and players playing percentage balls as opposed to exploiting a situation.

I think Knockeart is a class apart, shame we haven't got the 5 years younger version but he doesn't care about mistakes and i fully respect the not chasing back, though like all the others he is forced to buckle under and forget his natural game

we are knackered out by 60 minutes because of over expending because our moves broke down so a hideous amount of the teams energy is wasted sideways shadowing, half hearted gallopy presses and full on chasing back

but yes our team is conditioned to avoid mistakes, there is a lack of gambling and freedom to play the game, there needs to be signal even just for 10 minutes to go for it, wanton reckless abandonment and have the players all believing they are the best, games are often won in 10 or 15 minute spells, the rest of the time can just be a catalogue of errors but still not concede

we have in essence an error strewn squad so either sell the lot or maybe try to give them more freedom, take more risks, gamble, bomb on, goal hang, keep players up the pitch, even for 10 minutes here and there, whatever but ultimately clear out Ribs, Samba, Knocky and maybe everyone and whoever comes in, at present, these performances will be replicated

there is no in game management, they run themselves into the ground at an unsustainable tempo and after an hour anyone can beat us, the consistency CH wants is unsustainable, no diversification, variation within the game plan, every f'king game is the same

but yes, too many players who are too old or always injured or just don't seem good enough, though i would say, ask everyone of them if the repetitive, relentlessly identical game plan, 2/3 focus on defence at all costs or whatever, works for them .. the high press works when enforced full on Murray, Taylor, Grabban whoever most of there running could actually be deemed a complete waste of time they might as well just save there energy, even stand still, particularly Murray as he is a strength player, there is no point him chasing the ball 80% of the time similar for many others but they are under orders

Iaonnou seemed like he could produce some classy stuff, he made mistakes and was having a bit of a shocker when he got the red, told whoever he wanted to be part of a classy set up and not part of an 11 thats orders are to run around like headless chickens for 90 minutes, gone, never seen again, i'm guessing he had a right ding dong

If we are talking mass clearouts, i'd say use all the squad, arms round shoulders, try differant stuff to get a tune out of players even just for half an hour, the way it is we could end up with a load of dejected worthless players

I had forgotten about Da Costa coming back. We should get some kind of fee to add to the pot.
