The club was one breath away from death. We should remember that. Well every club will get sold at some stage, nothing lasts forever but It certainly won't be happening any time soon. RE: The Marinakis Manifesto - Mcforest - 25-07-2020 I think keeping any team alive and running in 20/21 season will be an achievement right now. As gutting as it is not to be in with a chance of going up I'm already looking forward to another season of competitive football in a league where anything can happen. RE: The Marinakis Manifesto - ozzyten10 - 25-07-2020 We have had year on year improvement in league position - and we all know we souls have been higher this season- the ground plans are exciting too. However, we have constantly sold our best or ‘most potential’ players - I do wonder if appiah and even Murphy would have offered more the the incomings and I know Osborn would have. Selling cash and Worrall will be devastating and I can also see lolley going- ripping the heart out of the side. I know it will be difficult for all efl clubs but I think those that started rebuilding this year - qpr, Derby, reading, stoke will be much better off than us. All those have established some sort of form at the end of the season and will be full of optimism. Lamouchi sets is up on the whole brilliantly away from home but at home we are shocking and have been all season. I haven’t enjoyed the football apart from 1 or two games and in those we played like the away side! The decisions made by n the next few weeks will define us. If Lamouchi stays he needs full backing and not some mendes cast offs and scraping the barrel types. If he goes then I think it’s time to manage expectations - sell big and build for the next 3 years with a deep commitment to whoever gets the coaching job. I’d like to see Carlos carvalhal - did a good job at Wednesday- can set up in different ways and knows the league and its challenges. Scout young with potential and develop them. It won’t get us promo red next year but may within 3 RE: The Marinakis Manifesto - ThePromisedLand - 25-07-2020 You’re right Ozzy - of course you are. But can they take the fans with them on that journey. They’ve been brilliant - in the main - this season but I’m not sure they have the stomach / commitment to wait another 3 years ( however structured that might be ). RE: The Marinakis Manifesto - ozzyten10 - 25-07-2020 But that is about managing expectations- we have had messages that top six is minimum otherwise the axe. Saying that has raised expectations of fans without due cause. Investment in the side just hasn’t been there. We are about par per course with our cost of squad - top 10. With parachute payments we are at a huge disadvantage on the clubs competing without have had a clear long term plan or world class manager. FFP for us has produced a closed shop for our preferred strategy of front loading investment in the team for short term success. Unless there is a relaxation I can’t see another way... RE: The Marinakis Manifesto - PsychoStanleyStone - 01-08-2020 exceptionally good points Ozzy, triggered me off into meandering lamentations, but getting to the point, complete clearout, create a huge pile of dosh, new footballing philosophy, attack, score goals, entertain and go on an exciting journey i do think Sabri did well, i think the problem is the refereeing and it makes alot of sense to set up like Sabri did because attacking football is in effect handicapped, penalised and not rewarded due to the present refereeing, most games we should of probably benefitted from many, many advantage scenarios and had a few more penalites, at the same time we could of finished most games with 9 men I think the refereeing needs to lean towards more justice for the offensive side of the game I think Sabri did well but I hate being the cowardly, timewasting, cheating side, defensive, especially ultra defensive side, it's cowardice and to be honest it was only the results that justified it, yes some superb counterattacking at times but those times got fewer and further between as the season went on. At the moment, things will probably stay the way they are, the refereeing will remain poor and until that changes Sabri is the man, but, I think i will find something more interesting to do on a Saturday afternoon RE: The Marinakis Manifesto - Sabricadabra - 01-08-2020 Improved league positions every season so far is the bottom line. Football managers get backed and then later sacked. Nothing to see there, but I’d like to have seen what Karanka could have achieved if he’d been here for longer. Maintaining financial stability, keeping us within FFP regulations, and challenging for promotion is a tough job at a club with only mid-table revenue. Our income of £25m a year is lower even than the likes of Bristol City, and we are competing against clubs with four or five times our spending power. I don’t see another way of balancing the books and being competitive other than selling a player every year. RE: The Marinakis Manifesto - Sabricadabra - 01-08-2020 Summer recruitment has generally been good, and will hopefully be again in the coming weeks. January’s recruitment was poor.
