Going to bump this because its really starting to annoy me although before anyone has a go I do appreciate there is little to be annoyed about this season.

Corners and zonal marking.

Nobody covers the back post. Every. Single. Time.

You can say if you want, yes but this season we have an excellent record at defending set pieces. But starting to be found out now and the goal we conceded on Monday was 100% preventable.
You could coach at primary school level and see the way we set up and try to play against it and its noticeable now that all opponents are stacking their forwards up at the far post where they have acres of space.

So does the tactic work? We look mostly organised and are good at snuffing out the chance but seem to be getting caught out a lot more in recent games. Surely its time to adapt this?

Something has not been right since we played Liverpool at home.

It's been a fantastic transfer window looking in from the outside.

However the proof will be in the pudding.

We appear to have assembled one hell of a squad.

The hard work starts now.

The coach whether it be Nuno or someone else now needs to get the very best out of this outstanding looking group.

Keep them all motivated, make them all to feel part of the first team scene and keep squad harmony.

Most important we need to be winning football matches.

All new signings look like world beaters on paper, reality is some will be good, hopefully some will be very good and some will be disappointing.

The issue is they will all want to start the majority of games and that can’t happen. There will be 5 very good players who won’t even make the bench. Keeping that lot happy will be a challenge.

Then we have to be far smarter with in game substitutes. We need to more regularly use 4 or 5 and that doesn’t mean making a triple sub in the 89th minute. Need to make all these players interchange seamlessly so that it doesn’t disrupt the team and be able to change formations mid game. We should have players capable of that but again big task for coaching staff, its what we pay them for though.

Yes very exciting signings but very difficult with the balance.

It'll be easier once the European games start and we're playing twice a week relentlessly, much easier to get everyone games then.

We are conceding from set pieces again, other teams struggling too here’s why.

The reason for a change in set up:
As of the 2024/25 season, officials are cracking down on deliberate holding, blocking, and grappling during corners and other set-piece situations.
Referees are now instructed to penalize clear holding offenses that significantly impede an attacker's ability to challenge for the ball.
This stricter interpretation discourages defensive tactics such as blocking the opposition goalkeeper or holding attackers to disrupt their runs into the penalty box.
The change in interpretation means that defenders who deliberately bring an attacker down through sustained and impactful holding can be penalized, even if it happens away from where the ball is ultimately delivered.
