Relegation Or FA Cup Win?

Who on earth would vote FA Cup?

Me If it was a direct choice.

Why? 

Winning a major trophy is a memory for a lifetime. I'd love to share that experience with my kids whose highlight prior to Steve Cooper arriving was staying up v Ipswich. By winning it, we'd have beaten Mancs, won a 1/4 final and a semi at Wembley beforehand. Those are memories I would love to add and share.

Going down would be horrendous- but with good management we could bounce straight back.

I might feel differently if I didn't attend every game, being in the limelight of the premier league must be great for fans who can't get to games. I'm actually getting a bit sick of losing nearly all the time and the fruitless (bar 3) away trips in the league.

Also, I love the FA Cup, 1988 and 1989 quarter finals at Highbury and Old Trafford right up there as top top days and memories the younger generation can not (yet) understand. The closest since being the most recent play off semis. White hot atmosphere, 12-15 000 Forest supporters in packed away ends. 
5th round at Birmingham with 10 000 Forest was great too, if a bit scary.

Anyhow, we're going to win the FA Cup so let's not make it a choice, just win the Cup and stay up too.

I reckon we have a chance against utd. They're hanging on atm against a busy Luton side.

Based on the current situation, what is our realistic Premier League ceiling? West Ham kind of level? I guess this Europa Conference League has opened another avenue of interest but I'd of thought the main purpose of being in the PL was to have an increased chance of winning trophies.

Finishing mid table or lower in the PL each year is fine but it's the novelty will wear of fairly quickly.

I'd like to think if we went down whilst winning the FA Cup which wouldn't be mismanaged to the extent Wigan were. Also we've got a way bigger base than Wigan to build pff along with history so I'm not sure it's a particularly fair comparison.

This seasons priority has to be to stay up and should we do that next season we will be in a good position to challenge further up the table, obviously have to sell 1 or 2 to keep on the right side of PSR line. But hopefully we can strengthen again.

Again different people, different times. Look at the championship now, the relegated teams are all in the top 3. No guarantees obviously but we'd go in as favourites.

Watford Norwich WBA all fairly recently relegated and struggling to get back. i can’t ever remember all three relegated teams getting straight back. This season it could happen but only two go up automatically and the play offs can be a lottery. As you say nothing guaranteed but i also remember Sunderland having consecutive relegations fairly recently. For me priority has got to be playing in the premier league. Keep expanding the fan base season on season, gradual improvement and get the ground up to premier league standard

I think this year's crop of teams is a better comparison than those. They all had individual issues.

Tbh Wassy I'm not sure what our squad would look like if we went down, so many would be off.

I'm just surprised there's 2 votes for winning the FA cup rather than staying up. Winning the cup is good looking on someone's CV but the league has to be a priority. Us fans spent years demanding to be promoted to the Premier league and now we are there some fans are talking about relegation this season. There's plenty of games left to cement our place in the league so we need to get behind the team especially now we have a full squad again who is capable of keeping us up.

This is the point you are making which I totally get. But ultimately the club needs to be stable first, developing the ground, training ground and pretty much everything else rests on it. So first of all get a squad that can comfortably finish mid table without a panic, then think about the cup win.
If the question was finish 10th or finish 17th and win the cup then of course you take the cup.

Obviously the question is hypothetical but worth noting so far we have had to play 4 games of football plus 2 periods of extra time and a penalty contest to beat a League 1 and a Championship team. Its nothing but a pipe dream this season ,we will get more and better chances if we build a Premier League side.
