All very good points and I totally agree. It would however be good in certain situations, to have had the possibility to push the defensive line higher up the pitch to limit the space for the opposition but without real pace that would be very risky.

I have been impressed with Robinson so far and it looks like he has seen off the challenge of Ben Osborn for the left back spot.

He is looking like a good solid signing.

I agree Duncan. very solid player and will only get better. he hasn't played a full season at fullback for 3 or 4 years

Sorry guys, but I have to disagree. I believe Robinson has been the weak link up until now at least. He could of course improve but as it stands now he's in my mind, not performing at the required level. Maybe I'm a bit harsh but he needs to improve massively when we are attacking. It's not enough to be an okey defender. You really need to be a good wing back if our 4-2-3-1 system is to work.

The only critic I have have of him is several times I see him miss control on the byline, but I suppose that could be him being fatigued. I think he would be solid as a 3rd centre back. I think his defensive duties are spot on. That left flank doesn't seem as targeted or weak now he's slotted in. Nothing against Ben but he's best further up the pitch.

The left side has been more solid defensively I agree to that. The reason for me has been:
- Having either Lolley, Dias or Benny in left midfield (and not Goncalves which for me is not yet strong enough defensively)
- Having a left back that is not as willing to attack as much as Benny thus not being exposed as much when we lose the ball in an attacking formation (if you look at the stats,  Benny has had double the ball possession compared to Robinson when playing at left back)

I do hope that Robinson will develop into a wing back given time but the early signs suggests that we should be looking for a better option.

Now, go and prove me wrong Jack  :)

That's correct Jock but it's important to emphasis that he was part of a TEAM that kept a clean sheet. The defense will not keep a clean sheet without support from the midfielders and attackers.

I will argue that in modern football it's not enough for a defender just to defend as it is not enough for an attacker just to attack. Robinson is an okey defender but he has some way to go before he can call himself an efficient wing back that can be an important attacking force for the TEAM.
